Privacy Policy
Effective as of October 1, 2007
Who We Are
The CLIC Network is a next generation online experience that allows you to connect, collaborate, share, and discuss matters related to the college-bound and college-matriculating experience with other users of The CLIC community on the Internet. The CLIC Network's Privacy Policy is designed to help you understand how we collect and use the personal information you decide to share, and help you make informed decisions when using The CLIC Network.
For our student users, we understand that you are registering to become a member of The CLIC Network and sharing personal information with us in order to avail yourself of the specific services available on our network, including matching with and being exposed to institutions who may help you advance your college-related goals. You may not want the information you share with The CLIC Network to be visible, accessible or otherwise available to other people who view the site, and we have created site functionality in accordance with that desire, including precluding access to and modification of the private information on your page by anyone but you, the registered user associated with it, and preventing all users, including student users, from freely scrolling through or otherwise visiting CLIC Student pages.
For our secondary school, college and scholarship and community organization users, we understand that you are registering to become a member of The CLIC Network and sharing institutional information with us in order to expose your institution's offerings to student users on the site, be matched to best-fit students and communicate with students to offer information, assistance and services to them. You may not want your information to available to all site users, or you may want to restrict interactive functionalities on your pages to defined site users. We have created site functionality in accordance with those desires, including restricting access to secondary school CLIC School pages only to student users who have been granted permission by that institution's CLIC School page administrator, allowing CLIC School, College and Community page administrators to set permissions on interactive functionalities (such as blog posting and email submissions), and restricting the ability to enter, update or modify CLIC School, College and Community pages to the designated page administrator.
By using or accessing The CLIC Network, you are accepting the practices described in this Privacy Policy. This privacy statement covers the site www.theCLIC.net and its directly associated domains.
Throughout this Privacy Policy any reference to we, us, our, CLIC, TheCLIC.net or The CLIC Network shall mean The CLIC, Inc. and all its affiliated entities, services and web sites.
Information That We Collect
When you visit www.theCLIC.net, you provide us with two types of information: personal information you knowingly choose to disclose, and user information collected by us as you interact with our web site.
The CLIC Network understands the value of your personal information and takes the utmost care to protect your privacy, particularly for student users, which is why we never collect students' full mailing addresses or home telephone numbers, and only require email addresses for verification and to conduct official CLIC Network business.
Additionally, we collect mobile telephone numbers solely for the purpose of providing text messages containing alerts such as Calendar updates, mobile Outreaches from Colleges and Community Groups and emergency alerts from institutions, a service for which the student has specifically opted in, and other mobile services that students may choose to use. Mobile telephone numbers are never shared with anyone outside our company, including employees, contractors and agents who need to know that information in order to operate, develop or improve our services. Nor are mobile telephone numbers used to contact the student other than via text message.
We never have access to the college applications, community group forms, scholarship applications and financial aid forms that students may link to through our web site. Those documents are solely accessed via and submitted directly to those third-party institutions and are never requested by, nor shared with, The CLIC Network.
We do not sell mailing lists or any individual contact information, and provide only non-personally identifiable, aggregated demographic data to our non-student users.
Profile Information
The information we collect from the students on our site originates from the extensive profile completed in order to enable colleges, scholarships, community groups, secondary school and other organizations to find students. We encourage all student users of The CLIC Network to complete this form as thoroughly and honestly as possible so that no opportunity is missed. The CLIC Network does not share profile or contact information with anyone outside of The CLIC Network and its subsidiaries, and student profile information will not be viewable on CLIC Student pages apart from a user ID and other non-personally identifiable information that students may provide. Further, only registered students are allowed to see CLIC Student pages, and only invited and/or accepted buddies on The CLIC Network will be allowed to see another student's CLIC Student page. Finally, all CLIC Student information is stored in a secure database as either "public" or "private," and only the student owner of the account, as the registered user logged onto the site, will have access to CLIC Student page information that is tagged as "private."
We know that we are given this information to us with the trust and full understanding that we will utilize it for the sole purpose of providing the services described throughout this web site, including, but not limited to: matching students with universities, scholarships, financial aid and community groups that students may want to apply or can assist students in reaching your dream of going to your best-fit, four-year college; making non-personally identifiable information available to those institutions to find, communicate with and offer their information, aid, assistance and services to you, and introducing students to other opportunities, products and services that match current goals and interests.
The CLIC Network may use information in a user profile without identifying you as an individual to third parties. We do this for purposes such as personalizing advertisements and promotions so that we can provide you all of the benefits of being on The CLIC. We believe this benefits our users. For example only, we might serve advertisements highlighting band camps or instrument sales in a student's area if a student indicates that he or she is a member of a high school band.

The CLIC Network may use automatically collected information, cookies, and web beacons to: (a) automatically update The CLIC Network service; (b) remember your log-in information so that you will not have to re-enter it during your visit or the next time you access The CLIC Network; (c) monitor aggregate site usage metrics such as total number of visitors and pages accessed; and (d) track your entries, submissions, participation and status in any promotions or other activities, and usage of The CLIC Network.

We may use your information to track user-generated content and to the extent necessary to comply as a service provider with the Digital Millennium Copyright Act.
